I was playing the Japanese version of Final Fantasy XI many years ago. It’s years ago now. Β They did a sudden switch to crystals which took my Cousin and I by surprise.

Overnight , we lost all access to our game and no matter what we did then, we could not regain access without a Japanese credit card.

Then Eorzea was released, Flynne did try to get into it but he stopped after a while. It was not the same.

Nowadays when novels or anime like The King’s Avatar pop up, we are often reminded of the long hours we put in slogging away in game.

All that’s left is this blog and fond memories. We attended many Distant World concerts and whenever Distant World is played or any related FFXI songs, we go back to the days where our Tarutaru and Elvaan once roamed the plains of Vanadiel with our friends.

It started out a lazy Sunday afternoon where Abyssea does not seem to hold any attraction for us. We needed a different kind of distraction…

No, not the kind that Flynne enjoys… It’s Mission Time!!

Still missing that pertinent 108 quipu knot, Wynth poked Flynne and convinced (tricked) him into getting one for her. It dropped on the first Yag kill btw, so it was kinda ..hmmm..

Rolling on the steam of the first kill, it was off to complete the missions for Wings of the Goddess!

After helping an Elvaan get a knot, we met *gasp* the famous Elvaan white mage (or friar as he’s called by the Elvaans) and his pet goblin!

Watching Flynne standing next to the friar, I think that Flynne definitely cuts a better look in his red magery stuff than our dear Friar friend whose name I can’t spell. After deciphering the knot, we discovered that our beloved Windurst is going get ambushed by Yags! Not only an ordinary yag, but the -Manifest- and her minions of masked Yag army!

Cutting to the chase, me and my warrior red mage slave, Flynne had to fight against hordes and hordes of Yag in the first round in order to create a surprise ambush attack on the Yags. Actually, it was all Flynne’s work, he used a dagger and basically Cycloned all of them to death. (I was trying to help, but..hmmm…staff skill not up there yet! 😦 )

The rest was up to these warrior cats! Look at them!!

Naruto makes a surprise appearance as he tries to Rasengan the Yags. (Flynne happens to think its Sasuke with Chidori)

This mission also introduced a casanova male mithra that had all the women swooning! (That’s excluding Wynth! She was so shocked by him sniffing her. See first picture)

The second stage of the missions involve a trip to San O’ria in the past and the meet-up with the utterly gay Dancer called Makyavo

and the appearance of the half-Elvaan and half-Hume called Lilsette! She kinda made Flynne drool.

The story moves into the knight’s invasion into La Vule (Davoi in the present) and we had this gorgeous fight scene between the Elvaan knights and the Kindred!! And we actually saw what a real shield bash is instead of the pansy ass ones that we get! 😦

and look at the JUMP! isn’t it more gorgeous than what we get!? !? !?

We had to fight some stuff again, but Flynne took care of it quickly and neatly! He had to fight a dragon all by himself and his instructions to me were, “Wynth, you stay far far away from the dragon to take care of all the debuffs.” So I waddled to the back and waited and waited and waited… >_< Flynne never got cursed or paralyzed at all! Lucky dhalmel!!

After he was done with the dragon, we had to have awful visions given to us by a Spite Warden, who is one of those Apocalyse Now creatures. Sigh… Life is tough for SE to recycle it.

After that battle, we had a revelation! Cait Sith was not the only one in the world, there were many Cait Siths around!

We reached the part where we had to feed the male cat and unfortunately, there wasn’t much fish for me to continue..so more will be told for the next time.

In summary, most of the missions up to this stage can be soloed by a red mage. Wait, make that a competent red mage. Incompetent ones should just stay at home and stare at their moogles.

Have a Happy Valentine’s Day or a Happy International Friendship Day everyone!!

We don’t really need a day to be friends, but let’s all have fun together! πŸ™‚

Hoppity New Year everyone!!

Haven’t been posting the last few months because RL has been slowly murdering me but…

Here are my FFXI new year’s resolutions (please note title of post):

1. Don’t find a new Linkshell.

2. Don’t try really hard to level my mule.

3. Don’t finsh COP on Eleria.

4. Don’t complete all the nation missions.

And most importantly.

5. Don’t bully Flynne.

Have a great year ahead everyone!!!

What has genkai got to do with Ose? Nothing much really except that the latest genkai involves us killing level 70+ creatures to get something called Kindred Crests. We need 5 of these crests to do the limit break. In our excitement, Flynne and I headed first to Cape Terrigan. The entire place was fillled with people (no surprises), then we headed to Wajaom Woodlands and Bhaflau Thickets… and same situation there. Finally we decided to take a nostalgic trip to Labyrinth of Onzozo to fight the Toramas….

and that’s when I just made a passing comment, “Wouldn’t it be ironic that Ose pops as we are fighting these Toramas?”

And my faithful companion promptly ran to the rock and stood on it, “Ose would pop here.” Flynne proudly declares and then…. Ose popped…

Suffice to say, the first time fighting Ose…Flynne had to escape us before he decided to do what all RDMs do best. Kite and Nuke…so there we were running all over the place kiting and nuking darn Ose…and when he finally died…

Flynne turned to me and lamented sadly, “He didn’t even drop a Kindred Crest.” Orz Ose! >_<

Needless to say, Flynne got his crests first before I got mine in an Abyssea party….and the genkai was simple….it involves… me getting nuked.

Before getting smashed by a Giant Star again…

And having the Magian Moogle “Raise” me….welll I hope the next couple of Genkais would be this simple…but they gotta increase the drop rates of those crests.

Went for my first NM hunting at Abyssea, was late for the event actually but the alliance is pretty sweet. They actually had one of the members give up his place in the alliance for me so that I could get clear. >_< I felt bad about it…but that's why I like to stick with Japanese groups most of the time. I think they are quite generous and open-hearted people! That doesn't really apply to all, I know there are some bad apples in the basket as usual.

So we went to hunt for Brieaus. Probably got the spelling wrong! We waited a long time before we could fight the NM as another alliance was fighting it. When they wiped, I was thinking it was a pretty difficult NM to really kill, but my alliance took it slowly and we managed to kill it! So…yay! πŸ˜€

The handsome Elvaan that I got at my CS at La_Theine apparently perished! So sad, so he had an ugly Galka come to finish the quest with me. One NM down, probably gazillions more to go.

At least I had a good companionship.

The summer fest came and gone and we still have the usual Murmor thing where everyone danced with Murmor to get the summer festival items.

This time Murmor came with a friend, the last villain that she defeated and she’s up against 3 bodacious babes:

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

An elvaan, a hume and a Mithra. Don’t they look very scantily clad…but in actual reality…they are:…..

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Talk about major big difference! πŸ˜€ An old man is the mithra. Hmm…SE’s joke on the fact that most mithras are played by old men? πŸ˜€ I don’t know but its incredibly funny.

It’s been a long time since I saw the line.

Thieves these days are not really aware of “THE LINE”

So it is with utter delight that I present … “The Line”, the wonderful SATA line.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

It’s difficult to find a thief who can execute the line swiftly, but this thief is awesome and can do it. It’s a great party!

Thieves should concentrate more on the line. πŸ˜›

I wonder if anyone stilll remembers that a couple of months ago, East Ronfuare [S] camps were always full and Caerdarva Mire is always crowded. Back then, it was a long drawn process to get to 75 or even get merits.

My little white mage struggled so hard just to get a single merit in bird camps with crazy ass DDs and only Cure 3 as the biggest spell. Pecking Flurry, I hate you!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Then came Abyssea and :O People could now get to 80 with one great party!!!

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I know I did! Abyssea is so awesome! πŸ˜€

So why is that people have to go afk every 2 minutes! I mean I can understand a noob doing that….but a level 75+ paladin with good gear from HNMs going afk every 2 minutes. How do you even camp Fafnir or the other HNMs? or is this just an opportunity for people to leech!!! >_< Maybe people are thinking…in an alliance of 18, its so easy to go afk because there's just too many people around and nobody will notice…

OR SO YOU THINK! BUT its pretty obvious when you are the ONLY TANK!! Hate was running around like a headlesss chicken. Even the WHITE MAGE was getting hit because she was curing the over-zealous DDs that seem to think that causing 1000+ damage on a mob with raging rush makes them invincible so they don't put up shadows (oh yes, don't lie that you did cause I saw the mob turn to hit you and there is no that "it takes away 1 shadow" thingy)

And i know the going AFK was deliberate because suddenly the PLD came back when there was "gear" to lot on. o.O (Too bad that helmet doesn't have cure potency…)

The saddest thing is that these are the people who probably want to get to level 80 so that they can try out the new NMs but decide to make everyone suffer in the process by being a leech.

Or maybe I'm just a grumpy and unforgiving taru….and that the player is an elderly man with IBS which necessitates the frequent visits to the loo.

hmmm…probably I should learn empathy and do that too..

so whenever "XXX falls to the ground", the white mage should also delightfully be afk. Grumpiness causes colic and IBS, ya know….

Eat raise 1, you noob.

White mage was never this hard.

All she had to do was stand far far away from the carnage and make sure everyone is dutifully healed and free from status ailments, then she could go back to her knitting or her tormenting of Flynne or whatever that makes her happy.

Now Scholar, that’s a different type of studies.

Columns of books and tomes were piled up around her hiding her from light and day. Given her tiny statute, it would definately be reasonable to assume that there was no one around. So that’s why the big dumb elvaan red mage had left her locked in the study with dustballs and hairy spiders for companionship.

All she wanted to do was to look up on how to effectively manage dark arts and light arts, complementing them with storms and helixes. She would rather be at the port with the noob Kinzi fishing with little worms. She just read one page (well it was really one paragraph…ok ok one line) and fell asleep. The next thing she knew, Flynne had locked up the room and wandered away for a hot night out with Darkx.

Wynth blames Darkx actually. Him and his insatiable libido.

Male Elvaans! Harumph!

Wynth plonks herself on her considerable derriere as she considers the party that she had today with the red mage hag.

“You’re wasting your charges! Don’t use accession with erase! Look at your mp! Regen all the DDs! Penury is better with Cure 3! You know your Paladin almost died while you were nuking!? ”

Blah blah blah. Why does it have to be so hard!?
Oh well, she would just sleep on it and figure it out tomorrow.

She pulls out the item that she had squirreled away and plucked out the feather. Plumping up the duelist chapeau, she uses it as a pillow for her head. As the chapeau tilts to the side, the word, “Flynne” can be seen lovingly embroidered in gold just beneath the hem. Wynth was so grateful that she was “kind” enough to help Eleria pass something back to Flynne.
